Salt Water Fishing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Friday, February 26th, 2010

A Myrtle Beach vacation without fishing is like peanut butter without jelly – you don’t want one without the other, especially if you are an avid sportsman who loves the thrill of deep sea salt water fishing. The Atlantic Ocean and the waters off South Carolina provide the ideal spot for the fisherman’s dream vacation. It is that important to make some time on your vacation to cast your reel into the great blue ocean. There are so many fishing options, the question should not be “if” there will be fishing on a vacation but “how” the fishing will take place.

Fishing boats are abundant in Myrtle Beach. Most boats are owned and operated by full time commercial fishermen that fish throughout the year and sell their wares to local restaurants and food chains. These fishermen are in the “know”; they know the best spots to fish. These privately own vessels set out from port each day, some before the sun comes up and they set out on day trips for off shore fishing. If the goal is to stay closer to the shore, then there are fishing boats that skirt the coast and roam around the Intracoastal Waterway for some in shore fishing. There are fishing boats that troll their way around the Ocean Isle area casting for Black Sea Bass, Snapper, Grouper, Larger Sea Bass, Trigger, Dolphin, Wahoo and King Mackerel.

There are a few different types of fishing boat options. If on your trip there is only a short time that can be devoted to fishing, there are half day trips that usually run around four hours long. But if you have more time available or are planning a Myrtle Beach vacation simply for the fishing, then a full day trip is a great option. There are party boats that take out large groups to fish and there are private charters that take only five or six people out at once. The options are pretty much unlimited; some charters will also go out at night. All fishing boats book up quickly because of the reputation of fishing, so be sure to save a spot and book in advance for the ultimate fishing experience while on your trip to beautiful Myrtle Beach.
